The 2020 Southeastern Apple Growers Meeting is rapidly approaching and the program and meeting arrangements are ready to go! The date for the 2020 meeting is Tuesday and Wednesday January 7-8. This year we will be back at the DoubleTree By Hilton Asheville – Biltmore. Your review comments have all been positive and the DoubleTree is a newer hotel with a great atmosphere, history, indoor pool, in house TGIF restaurant with other chains within easy walking distance. It is also easier to access the hotel right off I-40 at exit 50 with plenty of free parking in front and behind the hotel. In addition to the two days of educational programs, commercial exhibitors, and entertaining banquet, is the opportunity to meet with other growers. The educational session will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7th and conclude on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 8th with the exhibits open both days. We will have our annual banquet on Tuesday evening, with after dinner entertainment provided by Mr. John Gordon! John is the chief NOAA meteorologist in Louisville KY and in the Air Force Reserve has flown into 90+ hurricanes. John’s speaking motto is to Entertain, Educate, with Enthusiasm, and End on Time. Something new that we are adding this year is a social with refreshments in the exhibit area before the banquet. Please take advantage of this opportunity to stop by for refreshments and talk to our exhibitors and fellow growers.
This year’s educational program includes speakers with a wide range of expertise. On the first day of the program we will have an emphasis on topics of importance such as marketing, food safety, and a labor panel. On the second day, we will address orchard management and production related topics such as weed, insect, and disease management. It is exciting to have the NCSU apple team expanding over the past several years and participating in this meeting. We will end the meeting with a Growers Innovation panel. Pesticide recertification credit will be available at the end of the program on Wednesday, January 8th. Please take a look at the enclosed program to see the many topics that are going to be addressed. There will be an Auxiliary program with planned activities for those interested.
